An Astrologer’s Crib Notes for 2008

Neptune, which rules the sign of Pisces is the sign of progressive Aquarius. Uranus, which rules the sign of Aquarius is in the sign of Pisces. This curious configuration is the bridge between the Great Age of Pisces to the Age of Aquarius, encouraging us to transform Piscean ideas of spirituality into Aquarian ideas.

During the age of Pisces we were urged to “love our neighbors as ourselves. During the Age of Aquarius we will be called on to prove that we do. While Pisces rules the collective that works in a group, Aquarius rules the individual who works through groups. No longer we will be allowed to define ourselves in a group identity, nation, region, state, city, family. All of us are called on to develop and use our individual gifts for the good of all. This is a freeing concept with a terrifying consequence; no longer are we allowed to view our world as “us against them. Through Aquarian ideals of brotherhood the phrase “whatever you do to the least of my brothers, that you do undo Me comes into sharp focus. The Piscean ideal of sacrifice for others will give way to the idea that sacrifice is unnecessary when we stand together and freely share what we have.

But we have a way to go before we get there yet. The call to individuality is perhaps one of the more difficult lessons to master. Most of the zodiac have intense social urges to act within the social order. To develop our individuality is to risk standing outside the group. With Neptune and Uranus as harbingers of the New Age, all human kind is tasked to step up to the plate to define the Divine within, find your gift and share it with the world.

In 2007 the masculine Air and Fire signs had the opportunity to integrate their individuality into spiritual ideals through Neptune in Aquarius trine transformative Pluto. This work was not without difficulty as these signs find it difficult to abandon their personal interests to the collective. With difficult aspects to Uranus in Pisces, the Air signs found a propensity to substitute intellectualism for substance, the fire signs substituted personal gain against the good of the collective. Notice that the price of oil, (ruled by Pluto) shot up in price in a short time despite the relatively stable supply. This is profit taking for selfish reasons, without regard to the needs of the people dependent on this commodity. With Saturn in Leo during last year, the call was for leadership to exercise “noblesse oblige, the royal responsibility to care for the people, but the call was ignored for the interests of the richest of us. Who stood up for the people? No one. Who represented the people? No one.

In 2008 the shift is to the feminine polarity as Pluto crosses into Capricorn and Saturn continues the journey in Virgo. The power of this combination is that we will be able to transform our thoughts and dreams into concrete reality. Collectively, we will see the need to make the sacrifices necessary to save the earth as well as ourselves. Pluto in Capricorn calls us to transform our values, especially those about wealth and power. Saturn in Virgo calls us to execute our responsibilities with precision and care. Gone now are the fiery enthusiasms of the past year where flash equals cash and cache. Just saying it won’t make it so anymore.

How are we going to handle this energy?

Gemini, Libra and Aries, this coming year finds you taking things more seriously as your relationships transform before your very eyes. Pluto in Capricorn forces you to look at how much you and your partner contribute to the relationship and the answers aren’t pretty. If it was fun and games before, more of a commitment is required. If you are settled into a long term relationship, fundamental changes have you questioning your place in the world.

Aquarius, Leo and Sagittarius, this coming year finds you increasing your income by taking on more responsibilities. How well you do this is a measure of your growth as an individual as you are asked to work in a more structured environment than you are used to doing. Freedom or money is the choice for you to make.

Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn, you are being handed the reins of power. Can you handle it? Being alpha dog isn’t all its cracked up to be when the dogs nipping as your heels are waiting to yap about your mistakes. Your test is handling power without letting it go to you head.

Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces, face it, guys, when things get tough, you melt away in the water sign version of “Exit, stage left. Now Pluto in Capricorn pins you down. Deal with it.
