Astrological Analysis: Lost in Alaska
June 18, 2008

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - The National Park Service on Monday resumed a search for two women missing on what was supposed to be a short backpacking trip in Denali National Park.
The agency added one ground team looking for Abby Flantz, 25, of Gaylord, Minn., and Erica Nelson, 23, of Las Vegas. Also, searchers with dogs were to arrive Monday.
The women were last seen Thursday at the Savage River check station just 15 miles from park headquarters. Visitors can drive that far, but beyond Savage River, visitors must use park or concessionaire buses to limit traffic on the road.
On what was supposed to be an overnight trip Abby and Erica had picked up a permit for the Healey Wilderness Area on Thursday, June 12 which is in the northeastern section of the park. When they did not return for their shift at nearby Denali Princess Lodge on Saturday the fourteenth, they were reported missing.
What can astrology tell us about their disappearance?
There is no timing among the various news accounts for this event. At the entrance of the park the young women would have obtained their permit, map their trip, seen a short film on wilderness hiking and attended a “safety talk.” However, the Savage River Trailhead, the check in station, where they were last seen is 15 miles from the Park entrance. At approximately 8:00 AM the Moon was in Libra in the fourth house of the chart. The fourth house can be considered “the base of operations”.
Venus is in Gemini, representing the two young women. The easy energetic connection the trine, flows from the Libra Moon to Venus, indicating that the start of journey all was well. On their proposed trip they would have to cross the Savage River, but they were advised that they should cross the river were it was braided and therefore more shallow. This would have taken them first east then north, but here the Venus is 23 degrees indicating a Northwestern direction. At twenty three miles from the park entrance is the Sanctuary River Campground.
This astrologer’s speculation is that, in looking for a safe area to cross the river, the two women went further and further to the Northwest, wandering over an area north of the Sanctuary River Campground. There they encountered more difficulties as the terrain grew steeper . They realized they were lost. It was here approximately 22 miles Northwest that one suffered an accident, since Uranus, the planet of accidents, squares Venus. Uranus is in Pisces and Pisces rules the feet indicates a sprained or broken ankle, which would cause them to hunker down and wait for rescue.
Jupiter in Capricorn in the Sixth house of servants and health represents the Park Rangers and Rescue Personnel. Here it is stress aspect to the Venus representing the young women. The Rangers came close but not close enough, with the Sun inconjunct the Jupiter, of being in the vicinity of the two women. With a sextile to Uranus in Pisces, they keep searching the river, but they would need to look a little more to the west.
This astrologer’s opinion is that Abby and Erica will be found a little worse for wear, when the Moon goes in Aquarius and the Rescue personnel start thinking outside the box for a solution. Motivation is high, since tourism brings in a lot of money to this area and the Park personnel don’t want their Park to be seen as an unacceptably dangerous place.
Our prayers are with these young women and their families.
