Barack Obama’s VOC Moon and Mars Problems
March 6, 2008

Notes: terms to be familar with. Transit–the position of a planet as it moves in the sky relative to a fixed position of a planet in a natal chart. Natal–a position of a planet at the time of the birth or event. It is fixed position.
Debbie Kempton-Smith quotes from A. H. Morrison on her Moon Void of Course page:
“In every presidential election from 1900 through 1972 one of the two major party candidates was nominated with the Moon Void of Course. Every one of the candidates nominated with the Moon Void of Course lost.
“Jimmy Carter’s 1980 nomination came in a Void of Course Moon.”
[ John Kerry's 2004 nomination and Al Gore's 2000 nomination came in a Void of Course Moon. ---DK-S]
One website published the announcement of Barack Obama’s candidacy. According to the information that astrologer recieved, he made his announcement on a Void of Course (VOC) moon.
A Moon Void of Course refers is a moon that makes no further aspects to any other planet before is changes sign. It signifies that nothing will come of the matter
Up until the end of January, Clinton had a slight lead over Obama in delegate count. Then during the month of February, Obama pulled ahead with ten straight victories. What happened? If nothing is “to come of the matter then why did Obama put in such a strong showing?
As it happens, Mars by transit had been in retrograde motion up to January 31, 2008. It was inconjunct, known as the seesaw aspect, with the Void of Course Scorpio moon of the announcement chart. It appeared to be moviing backward, backpeddling as it were, holding its position. Then on January 31, 2008, Mars turned direct in its motion, giving traction to the VOC Moon, acting like a bandage on a serious deficiency in an afflicted chart. In a sense, this is a case of two wrongs making it right.
But this condition was not to last, as the Texas/Ohio primaries demonstrated. Mars changed sign just before the polls opened on March 4th, ripping away the bandage, exposing the VOC moon. The push pull of the contested race returned with Clinton scoring important wins in Ohio and Texas. Now transiting Mars is inconjunct Chiron, revealing the gaping wounds in a flawed announcement chart.
We’ll talk about the consequences of this in a future post.

Wow! You justified something in hindsight, how amazing!
Why not go on the record and try to predict what will happen for Obama in the future?

Ben,
Thank you for leaving a comment. I attempted to email my rather lengthy reply to you, but apparently the email address you left was not a valid one.
Actually I did make some predictions. That is why the previous posts are linked at the bottom of the article.
Please read: Hillary: Is She Presidential Enough? and Barack Obama: Will He Secure the Presidential Nomination?
Of course, my predictions aren’t always right. I totally missed on Michigan. And Britney, well, we didn’t suspect she was bipolar, but I’ve said before we do not have good indications for mental health diagnosis from the charts. But for the most part, the predictions I made have held up:
Rachel Ray has not divorced her husband despite the gossip rags touting the story.
Brad and Angelina have not split up, despite the many rumours. In fact, they are now rumoured to be planning a wedding.
Angelina Jolie is pregnant. I predicted that early November.
John McCain did lock up the Republican Nomination. At the time of the prediction, the pundits pretty much didn’t think much of him.
And last but certainly not least, I predicted that the Giants would win the Superbowl. No one else, as far as I know called that.
All of these articles are here on the website.
As far predicting something in hindsight, please understand that part of what astrologers do is observe what happens and make correlations and check the results againt future events. No good astrologer will profess to having all the answers and this is an art that is constantly evolving.
Part of what I do is to put out my observations so that other astrologers can check to see if these bear out for them as well. I can assure you that there are astrologers and astrology students who read this blog regularly.
What I do try to do is to present as much about astrology that I can whether it be conventional wisdom or experimental techniques.
If you can’t find it in your heart to open up to an ancient source of knowledge, that is totally OK. We are all on our own paths.
God Bless,
Beth

This is very interesting and I tend to give alot of weight to VOC moon timings. On the other hand, elections seem to be pretty fluid and there are a number of significant points along the way. From where we are now, I’m not sure I can buy the argument that the overall, tangible effect of Obama’s campaign could be dominated by the VOC moon chart.
I think it could be argued that the formation of Obama’s exploratory committee (1-16-2007 “a little after 10 am EST” per MSNBC) was the inital campaign event
rather than the formal campaign announcement in Springfield. That chart has the Moon coming to conjunct Pluto and Mars in late Sag. Overall, that chart really seems to describe the campaign better but certainly comes with some hefty pitfalls of it’s own.
IMHO, elections have a number of turning points. I tend to look at election days to get a better handle on where things are going to land.
Ultimately, in looking at the election day relating to Clinton’s, McCain’s and Obama’s chart, I think the polls are about right at this point that show Obama’s chances of beating McCain are better than Clinton’s. But McCain will be surprisingly hard to beat. I’ll be watching who’s up in the polls under the Rx Mercury in October of 2008. My best guess: whoever’s up at that point will lose.
Thanks.

Kevin,
Thank you for your thoughtful comment. I think we are all going to learn a great deal this election season.
When Gore ran eight years ago, there were a bunch of people, including astrologers, all so sure he was going to win.
Then on the night of the election, Mercury turned retrograde, (I think, working from memory here) and we got the result we did, so you might be right there.
