When O.J. Simpson was tried for the murder of Nicole Brown Simpson, this astrologer, like the rest of the country, was caught up in the courtroom drama. Being out of work that summer, I watched raptly just about every minute of the televised trial. When the trial yielded little conclusive evidence one way or another, I attempted, astrologically, to figure out if the famous football hero was responsible for her death. That started a fourteen year ongoing astrological study in the nature of violence, domestic abuse and domestic as well as “stranger” murder. Was there something that came up consistently which displayed a potential for violence?

Over at Big Sky Astroblog, April Kent started a discussion about happiness and the creative process. Those of us that blog astrology identify ourselves not only as astrologers but as writers as well, drawn into the creative process as much as another writer, musician, visual or performing artist.

Just what does spark the creative process? What makes a writer a poet, a musician a talented flutist, a visual artist a painter?

Astrologers generally check three things on the issue of creativity, the fifth house, the planets in the fifth house and the ruler of the sign on the fifth house.

Once considered a minor aspect, the energetic connection known as the inconjunct is now recognized as a powerful force in our charts. They are easy enough to find when they appear, in the next sign away, either side, to the point of opposition to another planet. An inconjunct is a stress aspect because, unlike the opposition or the square, it is difficult to focus on the issue at hand. We tend to swing wildly from one position to another when an inconjunct is active in our charts. This is why it is known as the “seesaw� aspect.

When you have an inconjunct between two natal planets, that is an area of life where you have difficulty finding a resolution point. It is a dilemma and a big one. In many ways it is uncharted territory and may indicate a spiritual lesson that has not been attempted in previous lifetimes.

An inconjunct to the natal Sun indicates an personality that hides behind a role or an image. There is an uncertain sense of self, a lack of sense of a place in the world. For this reason, an individual with an inconjunct to the Sun often feels unwanted or unloved.
