Today’s Astrology: Under the Disseminating Moon

Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008

July 22, 2008
MoonWatch.jpg
Under a wide trine to the newly minted Leo Sun the waxing gibbous, AKA the disseminating Moon is in the sign of Pisces, sitting right next to the planet of the unexpected, Uranus. Just past the full moon phase, where we glean an awareness of others, the disseminating phase prompts us to act consciously to outside events and to others. This is a thoughtful phase, where we tend to want to share with other people what we know.

Pisces is an overtly spiritual sign. In tune not just with their environment, but the Universe as a whole, people with a profound Pisces signature, either through their Sun, Moon or a connection with their ruling planet Neptune to one of the personal planets, Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus or Mars, have an innate sense of the undercurrents of life. Sitting next to the planet of the future, Uranus, now they have a sense of what is going to happen next. It would be wise to listen to the Pisces person in your life right now to plan your next move as the Universe is literally whispering in their ear. Don’t mind that far-away look in their eye. They are listening to things you can’t hear. With the moon in this phase, they are happy to share what they hear, even if comes out a little like gibberish. Pisces might be a great listener, but they are not so good at translation, so you need to take a little time to parse things out.

With Mars in cautious Virgo, Pisces call to action might be met with skepticism and a reluctance to act. Mercury in Cancer, all for this “let’s go with our feelings” thing is all for moving along on Pisces information super-sensory highway, and will sit patiently as Pisces emotes their vision of the future. With Jupiter in discerning and careful Capricorn, in tension aspect to Cancer, we tend towards a “wait and see” attitude. But taking our time might not be the best option. If you should get an inspiration, act on it. The worst the Universe can do is say “no”.

Moon Signs in Love

Relationships2.jpg
Moon_3.jpgOur moon sign is our emotional substance, what we need to feel secure and happy. It is said that when we are the most hurt, most vulnerable, we’ve been hit in our Moon sign. When we go against our basic needs, accept something that is less than what our natures demand, we are setting ourselves for heartache. To find your moon sign, go here.

An Aries Moon person needs to have three things– the freedom to come and go, someone who doesn’t deliberately kick up feelings of jealousy (they can do this all on their own) and someone who knows how to keep the challenge of the hunt going even through a long relationship. Things are always best for the Aries moon if the object of their affection is a tad out of reach.

The Taurus moon needs material and emotional security, patience and loyalty. This moon sign takes a long time to come around to making a commitment. Once they say “I do you aren’t going anywhere unless you fail to provide the things they most need.

The Gemini moon needs lots of face time, phone time and time to go where they want to. This is a socially oriented moon, so it you are a moody loner stuck on one of these moons prepare to spend more time alone. If you don’t have friends, there is something wrong with you, these moons reason. If you fail to provide enough mental and social stimulation, you’ll find yourself digging out your little black book again. They certainly will have.

The Cancer moon needs someone to nourish their considerable emotional needs. They have an infinite capacity for love, but they have a hard time understanding when other people can’t match their intensity or depth of emotion. They get terribly frightened when it seems like you don’t love them enough. Fiercely loyal and protective of their loved ones, they don’t want to feel that what they give isn’t given back.

Why Do Fools Fall in Love?

Why Do Fools Fall in Love?

Puck:
Captain of our fairy band,
Helena is here at hand,
And the youth, mistook by me,
Pleading for a lover’s fee.
Shall we their fond pageant see?
Lord, what fools these mortals be!

–A Midsummer’s Night Dream

The trickster Puck messes with the attractions of four young people and a hilarious romp ensues. His master, Oberon, the King of Fairies, casts a spell on his Queen, Titania, to teach her a lesson. The spell–Titania falls in love with a beast of burden, the ass. Indeed, throughout Shakespeare’s comedy and the comedy of our own lives, love is seen as something that is out our control, something that overrides our good sense and reason, sometimes deliciously so, sometimes leaving us feeling that we are, indeed, fools.

Puck, without regard for the serious consequences of his actions seem in character like the cherubically portrayed son of Venus, Cupid, whose arrows fly at a whim, or at the whim of some god or goddesses. But is it the heady chemical rush of hormones that pushes us headlong into relationships? Or our desire for something deeper, a connection that transcends the day to day reality of our lives?

Waking From the Dream

Usually dreamy Moon in Pisces kicks up its heels like a balking donkey in the face of challenges from the Sagittarian stellium of Sun, Mercury, Pluto and Jupiter, and not even getting support from a supposed ally, Mars in Cancer. The Moon is in late degrees of the sign and today will change to a dynamic Moon in Aries. Today we want to lay back and dream, tomorrow we’ll want to go, go, go and get ready for the Christmas show.

The Gateway to the Soul

Wednesday, November 28th, 2007

November 28, 2007
GLYPH_HEADER3.jpg
Moon_3.jpgWhile it is said the eyes are the window of the soul, the moon is the gateway to the soul.

The moon in the natal chart represents our emotions, our gut reactions, where things hit home. It is what we carry with us into this life, an impression and a summation of the past life lessons that we are here to work on now.

Soul work is involved with how we feel about something, not what we think, intellectually, about something. You may have had a time when an emotion will hit you out of the blue, and overtake you with no earthly reason for it to happen. Prehaps there is strong reaction to a place you never visitied, a face in the crowd that seems to jog some fleeting memory, a overly strong reaction to a slight given by another person. This is your soul memory, represented by your moon, at work.

This is an important reason for you to discover and treasure the moon sign you were born with. Like an archeology of the soul, your moon sign gives you valuable clues about who you really are.

Fire sign moons, Aries, Leo and Sagittarius spent many lives traveling. This is why they feel happier in motion than sitting in one place. Because they have recorded as a soul memory the impermanence of life, they find it difficult to settle down now. These moon signs learned through many lives to make friends quickly and have developed charming personalities to do so. Often, when tied down, they are nervous and restless, as if waiting for the other shoe to drop (or the next bandit to attack.)

Earth sign moons, Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn spent many lives in living in one place. They have learned the value of hard work and how to accumulate material possession to generate comfort in their earthly lives. They value security and long term relationships. The flip side to the earth sign moons is that sometimes they place monetary concerns ahead of the quality of their personal relationships. Earth sign moons would find a valuable lesson in not placing so much importance on material things.

Air sign moons, Gemini, Libra and Aquarius, spent many lives developing their minds. They are adept at forming social connections and gathering information. However, they are not so good at forming emotional connections, and though they might be attentive enough, there is a certain lack of warmth in their emotional connections. They, more than anyone else, would find it valuable to develop emotional empathy for the people in their lives.

Water sign moons, Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces are the most tuned into their emotions. They are so tuned in, in fact, that they live their lives constantly jostled by the little emotional shocks in life. Their sensitivity is sometimes too much for them to bear, let alone the people who are closest to them. Water signs have interesting defenses for their emotinal vunerability. Cancer is notoriously crabby, Scorpio wears “mystery” as a garment, and Pisces finds themselves unavailable for your emotional crisis. All this it to keep people at arms length so you don’t have a chance to touch their emotional underbelly. For these souls, a learning detachment is their valuable lesson.

Do Over

MoonCap.jpg
Not only should you keep track of the moon by sign, but also by phase. Each phase responds just a little differently to the current environment. Today the moon is in the waxing crescent phase moving toward the full moon. In the yin/yang duality that pervades astrological thought, all moon phases moving toward the full moon are reactive to surrounding influences, while the phases moving away from the full are reflective, acting from conscious action. With the waxing crescent phase there is a sense of obstacles being put in your way, a sense that you have to do something over to get it right. This is frustrating as there is a sense of urgency to move onto to new things. With the slow and practical Moon in Capricorn in tension aspect to the stick in the mud Mars in Cancer, we have our feet stuck one foot in the past and one foot forward into today.

Full Moon Madness?

Tuesday, September 25th, 2007

September 25, 2007
Planetsinaction.jpg
Moon
A United Kingdom medical firm, Essex Medical & Forensic Services, plans its staffing around the full moon, claiming that the need for medical service peaks at this time.

“At the University of Miami, psychologist Arnold Lieber and his colleagues decided to test the old belief of full-moon “lunacy which most scientists had written off as an old wives’ tale. The researchers collected data on homicide in Dade County (Miami) over a period of 15 years — 1,887 murders, to be exact. When they matched the incidence of homicide with the phases of the moon, they found, much to their surprise, that the two rose and fell together, almost infallibly, for the entire 15 years! As the full or the new moon approached, the murder rate rose sharply; it distinctly declined during the first and last quarters of the moon. “ (from Innerself.com)

Yet, others claim that there is no full moon effect as in this Meta Study. So what is going on with the full moon, and does it affect human behavior?

Today’s Eclipse, the Delayed Action Time Bomb

Tuesday, August 28th, 2007

MoonWatch.jpg

MoonPisces_1.jpg

Ancient astrology disparaged eclipses as harbingers of bad omens. The moon, the feminine, hiding the light of the sun, the masculine was never considered a good sign. Indeed, the eclipse point in your chart is a something that is hidden, a delayed action time bomb, that may not manifest now, but sometime within the next six months.

It Should Be a Full Moon. . .But It Isn’t

Wednesday, August 22nd, 2007

EyeonAspects.jpgSagMoon.jpg

Its not a full moon, but it might as well be. The moon in Sagittarius positions itself between Jupiter and Pluto in Sagittarius to form a tension aspect to Mars in Gemini. Gemini is a very nervous sign, highly tense and always in motion. Mars in Gemini aches for action, to be on the move. However, a challenge aspect to Mercury in Virgo holds it back in a most annoying way. It is enough to say that nerves are frayed and tempers are ready to let loose.
