A Matter of Perspective

Perspective.pngTrans-plutonian bodies, Eris, Varuna, Quoaor, and Sedna are a real trip, reminiscent of the sidewinder energy of the cosmic visitor Chiron, who picks us up and dusts us off with stunning revelations about ourselves, but only after he’s knocked off our feet with something that seemingly comes out of nowhere.

In this dimension, time is linear. We are used to thinking that point C follows point B that follows point A. In astrology, the traditional planets, the Sun through Saturn fits very neatly into this parochial view of the Universe. We even were able to expand our consciousness to include the “new� planets from Uranus through Pluto when we realized these planets were about personal and spiritual growth. Since it was all about us, we could get down with that. But when we are confronted with energies that do not follow this convenient path we tend to get confused. The trans-plutonian bodies are scarcely parsed, though this may be in part from these solar inhabitants’ own extra dimensional nature.

Saint Patrick’s Day, Celtic Zodiac, and the Cauldron of Regeneration

Erin_Go_Bragh.pngThis day is the ancient feast day of Saint Patrick, the patron Catholic saint of Ireland, the day when most everyone claims to be Irish, at least to lay dibs on the beer. But for those of us whose lineage runs from the Emerald Isle, it is a day that reminds us of the indomitable spirit born of a people, the ownership of whose land was continuously contested.

Ireland was a land whose was constantly overrun by invading peoples, the Anglo-Saxons, the Norse, the Romans, and the Britons. Multiple religions existed side by side the moon based beliefs presided over by the Druids, the caste of priest and priestesses that practiced the ancient rituals. Eventually, most of the invaders were absorbed by marriage into the traditional ways of the Celts. Catholicism broke this chain of invasion and absorption, with Saint Patrick’s claim to fame not driving snakes out of Ireland, but by driving the Druids, represented by the serpent, underground. So deeply were the Druids driven underground, that ancient genealogical lines of druidic origin were forgotten or lost and the ancient teachings hidden beyond the reach of most Irish. But one thing about the Irish remain, and that is the love of a good story. The Celtic tales of love, battle, glory and loss remained mostly in oral tradition, but were catalogued by a succession of scribes from the thirteenth century on.

The Christmas Star

Many years ago a fundamentalist Christian told me in all seriousness that astrology was evil because the Magi tipped Herod off to the birth of Jesus, thereby causing the slaughter of the innocents. This point of view only illustrates the lack of knowlege about astrology that results in these kinds of judgments.

The importance of the Christmas Star is the actions it prompted. Three Magi, called “Kings of the Orient” by the King James version of the bible, undertook a long journey from their respective homelands to pay homage to the the new “King of the Jews”. The astrology of that time was typically practiced was the astrology of nations and by extension, their kings. When the astrologers came to Herod it was because they had seen the sign of the Jews in the heavens and divined a new king was born. They expected that king to be in the royal palace

The symbolism of this story is that the new “King of the Jews” was not to found in the royal palace. The Magi’s discovery of the new king laid in manager was a familar mythic theme of the royalty raised among the common people who by that experience develops the insight to lead and protect them.

The birth of Jesus heralded the beginning of the Age of Pisces an age where many of the earth’s occupants became aware of Piscean mysticism through the teachings of one man. Religion for many ceased to be the daily devotions to many gods and goddesses, and became centered around one. The nature of God changed from capricious, angry. bickering gods and goddesses many knew, to the loving, caring one we imagine today. In making this change we revealed changes in our own nature, the expansion of our consciousness. The Christmas Star was the herald for these changes. It signaled not just the birth of Jesus, but the evolution of humankind. As the Magi follow the Star that signalled the growth of man, astrologers today continue to do the same.

Numerology- how to determine your numbers (part 1)

Birth Path Number
The birth path number, which suggests your overall path in life and place in the world, is based on your complete birth date. It is easy to calculate. Simply add up the digits of your birth data, and keep “reducing” (explained via the example here) to a single digit.

Example:
If your birthday is April 28, 1968, for example, note it as follows:

Birth Month is April, which is the 4th month = 4
Birth Day is 28 = 28
Birth Year is 1968 = 1968.

Add up the digits of all of these numbers:
4+2+8+1+9+6+8 = 38

Further “reduce” this number to a single digit by adding its digits:
3+8 = 11

And then further reduce it, if necessary:
1+1 = 2

The final digit, 2, is the Birth Path Number!

Name Number
Use the birth name–the name given a person at birth–to determine the Name Number (also known as the Expression Number), which reveals the overall personality. To calculate the name number, find the number that corresponds to each letter in the name in the chart below, add the numerals up, and then “reduce” the final number to a single digit, as you did with the birth path number, above.

Example:
Name given at birth: Mary Lynn Smith.

Find each letter and its corresponding numeral in the chart above, and then add these digits together:
4+1+9+7+3+7+5+5+1+4+9+2+8 = 65

Reduce by adding the sum’s digits together, and then further reduce to come to a single digit, if necessary:
65 = 6+5 = 11
11 = 1+1 = 2

In this example, the Name Number is 2, representing the personality type.
