Cautionary Tales–The Expected Gift
May 6, 2009
Have you heard this story? A young man, graduating from high school, was expecting a car as a graduation present. On the big day, the young man, all pumped at the idea of the expected gift, was handed, instead a bible. The boy, angry, tossed the book down and walked out of the house, and never spoke to his father again.
Years later, the boy, now a man, came home for his father’s funeral and found among his father’s belongings the bible which he had rejected. He opened the book and found to his dismay a sum of money, which would have been enough to purchase the vehicle he desired.
We have a grand theme playing out in the stars reminiscent of the story of the young man and the expected gift. Jupiter, the king of the gods, is holding court in the sign of Capricorn, a curious placement to begin with. Capricorn, ruled by Saturn is restrictive, while Jupiter is expansive. The symbol is that of restrained giving, like a father who gave his son first a bible that concealed what the boy desired. Jupiter by nature, wants to shower every bounty possible, and when traversing most signs does just that. But in Capricorn, rewards are delayed or reduced. You have to work very hard to get what is due. Anyone with a personal planet in Capricorn is experiencing this right now. The Sun sign Capricorn finds the expected promotion is just an increase in duties, with or without a commensurate raise in pay, the Moon in Capricorn finds that that home equity loan is smaller than expected, the Venus in Capricorn person is finding that money due to them is coming, but later than expected, the Mars in Capricorn person is finding love, but having to wait for it, and the Mercury in Capricorn person is finding a big need to write and communicate, but is showing a smaller return than their efforts would dictate.
Oh yeah, did I mention that the aggravator, Mars is in tension aspect to Jupiter in Capricorn? This like adding a hang nail you can’t get rid of, the stone in your shoe, the burr under your saddle. Not only then do we have Capricorn problems of great responsibility with little payoff, we’ve got to be aggravated as well. Then you wonder why Capricorn people don’t smile much. When even Jupiter doesn’t smile on you, you woudn’t either.
Oh eventually, we will get what we want, but its no fun when the Universe plays “keep away with your goodies. And like the story above illustrated, its best not to look to gift horse in the mouth, or you’ll miss out, altogether.
