Heath Ledger: An Unforeseen Conclusion
January 23, 2008
The heartbreaking death of award winning actor Heath Ledger has led to wide spread speculation that he deliberately took his own life. Though his family deny these allegations, reports of bottles of sleeping pills and non-prescripiton drugs in his bedroom fuels suspicions that this is the case.
What was going on with this man who in a few short years crafted a career that many actors envy?
Heath Ledger’s natal chart, reflecting the position of the planets on the day he was born, is stacked with serious psychological issues. Though he enjoyed a buoyant Sun in Aries, most of his chart at odds with his essential nature with many placement in water signs. His Venus (value system), Mercury (communications), and Mars (survival instincts) are in the chameleon like sign of Pisces: his moon, representing his security needs in the sign of the mother, Cancer. Saturn, the planet of life lessons and responsibilities is in tension aspect to his natal Venus. This Saturn/Venus configuration denotes an individual that comes into the world feeling alone, unloved and unworthy of love.
Also in Ledger’s chart is a grouping called a T-Square involving difficult connections with his essential nature, his Sun in Aries, his security needs, the moon in Cancer and the planet of transformation, Pluto, here in the sign of relationships, Libra. His challenge was to transform his relationships with women. As a Sun sign Aries, he had a natural urge to dominate in a relationship. With a Moon in Cancer, he had a compelling need for a woman to mother his emotional needs. This is tricky emotional ground. His break-up with the mother of his child just this past September must have opened raw wounds of being unlovable. Toss in a Saturn Return, setting off that sensitive Venus/Saturn opposition and you have a man feeling isolated and in emotional pain.
We also have additional fuel for the fire in this man’s soul. Mars in the heavens is in tension aspect to his natal Neptune. This is an energetic connection that Sakoian and Acker say:
. . . self undoing characterizes this transit. Suppressed anger and difficult to control subconcious desires tend to trouble the individual at this time. . . . Drugs and alchohol are likely to have an adverse effect. .
In addition, Ledger’s moon is in stress aspect (inconjunct) to Neptune as well. Not only does is signal danger from infections (TMZ reported Ledger had pneumonia), it marks danger from drugs and alcohol as well. The energies of the inconjunct are difficult to resolve. In Ledger’s case, it signaled a period of confusion and cloudy thinking. With the planet of expansion, Jupiter, in the heavens in challenge aspect to Heath’s natal Venus, Ledger felt it was OK to overindulge himself, a relief from the pain and anger he was feeling.
Did Heath commit suicide? Heath’s Arabic Part of Suicide is sitting right on top of the planet of dreams, illusions and drug use, Neptune. However, with his Sagittarius Sun in harmonious energetic connection with that Neptune, it is just as likely he was living deliberately on the edge, taking too much to see what would happen. Aries likes the thrill, they like the risk, but they never image the worst would really happen to them. It was a Russian Roulette kind of death that unfortunately had an unforeseen conclusion.
Our sympathies go out to the family and friends of this man with such a remarkable talent.
