Horoscope Analysis: Dan Rather, A Journalist’s Fight

Dan Rather fired off a new lawsuit against his former network Tuesday, charging that CBS News labeled the anchor “too hot to handle” and prevented him from being hired by other networks after his acrimonious departure.

Sun sign Scorpio Dan Rather’s penchant for digging to the heart of the story, of going into territory never attempted before, of graphically illustrating how events around around the world effected the American viewer not only got him into hot water more than once during his thirty seven year career, but proved him to be an icon of investigative journalism.

Among other things, his tough coverage of the Nixon Administrations’ Watergate scandal drew criticisms of biased reporting. Because forceful and skeptical reporting of the Iran-Contra affair, Presidents’ Bush Senior and Junior refused to grant him interviews during their presidencies. He has alleged that Fox News received “talking points” from the Republican controlled White House, though he has been criticized for having no proof for this claim. The end of his career at CBS came on the heels of his critical story of George W. Bush’s National Guard service record, where it was alleged that the source documents for the story were forgeries. Though Rather, on air, retracted the story, he on a Larry King interview said, “Nobody has proved that they were fraudulent, much less a forgery. … The truth of this story stands up to this day.”

Rather has said that “You can’t be a good reporter and not regularly be involved in some kind of controversy.”

What does astrology tell us of the makeup of the man? Why is he such a persistent fighter?

Rather says. “I can’t remember a time when I didn’t want to be a reporter” and here in his second house of income is the sign of writers and journalists, Gemini. The second house tells us how we earn our living. More tellingly though is his Moon in Cancer in that second house is in challenge aspect to his truth loving Mars in Sagittarius. Though moon in Cancer is usually protective of self, the square to this volatile mars position takes him on a high wire act. He’ll push forward and he won’t let go. He’s like a bulldog with his bone. With his Sun, Mercury and Venus in the sign of the ultimate detective, Scorpio, he’ll dig deeper, go farther than anyone else to get at the heart of the story. He’ll be sure of his facts before he reports them. The planet of work and responsibility, Saturn, in the sign of its exaltation, Capricorn, is in the ninth house of higher philosophy. It is his life’s mission to tell the truth, even if he must walk alone to do it. With Aquarius, the water bearer, who bears not water itself, but the life giving waters of Universal knowledge, on the door way of his tenth house of career and public image, he does so, even if that knowledge shocks and disturbs us. His current lawsuit is not for personal gain. He knows what happened and why. With Jupiter, transiting his ninth house, it is his way to publicly expose the workings of the power elite to suppress truth. When Jupiter crossed over his tenth house early next year, the truth will come out, whether or not the power elite wants it to.

Rather reportedly said “In many ways on many days, journalists have sort of adopted the attitude of ‘go along, get along.’”

“What many of us need is a spine transplant”, Rather added. “Whether it’s City Hall, the State House, or the White House, part of our job is to speak truth to power.”
