How clearly do you see yourself? Do you ever make a statement about yourself and other people tell you it isn’t true? Do you ever wonder why other people do not see you the way you do?

For many of us, the human experience is that of standing inside the mirror, looking out. Our experience inside the mirror is subject to the distortions of light as it passes into mirror. These distortions are caused by the curves, twists and bubbles of the glass inside the mirror, the part that is not polished to near even consistency.

In a birth chart, these distortions are the aspects, the energetic connections between the planets. Each kind of aspect distorts the energy between planets in a particular way. Think of a horoscope circle as the lens of the glass. Imagine points along the surface of the glass at different angles to each other. These are the aspects, the interplay of energies of the planets with each other.

Squares are ninety degree angles between planets. This angle is considered difficult, the energy a challenge to overcome. You have to take the challenge and work it through to find a solution.

An oppositions is a one hundred eighty degree angle that, just like the name, is directly opposite another planet. It is a tension aspect, as both planets vie with each other for dominance. Since leaning one way or another often resulting in imbalances, the key to resolving an opposition is to learn to balance the energies with each other.

An inconjunct is a one hundred and fifty degree angle with another planet. It is often called the seesaw aspect, as balancing the energies is not an option and you swing from one extreme to another. The key to resolving an inconjunct is to make a decision and take a leap of faith that it will work out.

A conjunction, is when two or more planets sit alongside each other. It represents a fusion of energy. Though classical astrologers consider a conjunction “malefic, this astrologer tends to think of conjunctions as neutral energy. It concentrates the expression of the sign of the conjunction to emphasize the life lesson of that sign. You are not going to do much about a conjunction other than live it.

A sextile is a sixty degree aspect which represents an easy interplay of energies with another planet. It represents an opening, an opportunity to accomplish the goal established by the planets involved. However, the sextile activates only if you put some energy behind it. You can have all the sextiles you want in a chart, but if you don’t send out a resume, you are not going to get that job!

A trine is the harmonious aspect; one hundred and twenty degrees between signs. Here is a talent that comes easy, a particular gift you have to share with the world The trine gives up the wonders of the Universe and the world to you without you asking. However, if you don’t put your trine to good use, it will make you lazy and you won’t accomplish much.

How do you see yourself? Is it the same way other people see you?
