John McCain: Presumptive Front Runner?
January 24, 2008

American news media make it seem like there is a hot and heavy race for the front runner position for the Republican presidential nominee as illustrated by this recent quote from MSNBC news:
There’s still no frontrunner in the GOP contest but there is a candidate in the “momentum slot.â€?
Mitt Romney kicked up some dust when he won the Nevada caucus, pumping up his bid for the nomination and keeping him ahead in votes for the nomination, but as predicted the tide of opinion is beginning to turn against him as shown in a recent MSNC article.
The truth is that one Republican candidate leads in one national wide poll and that person is John McCain. Can it be that McCain is really the presumptive front runner of the GOP race to the White House? Going further, is he the one that will capture the Republican nomination?
McCain has a long history of promoting bi-partisan cooperation and sponsoring unpopular campaign reform legislation which has earned him the designation as a “maverick Republican”. He opposed his own party on this issue at the same time he was trying to win the 2000 GOP presidential nomination. He lost handily to the more popular Bush. However, now public opinion has turned against the very traditional GOP with a sitting president with the lowest approval rating of any modern president and a failing economy squeezing a growingly disillusioned middle class. McCain has the military background, the political career and the respect of his fellow politicians to make him an attractive choice. Does he have enough broad based appeal to capture the nomination?
McCain has his Sun, his essential essence, in the perfectionistic sign of Virgo, sitting along side Neptune. This Neptune placement is important as it add glamour and public appeal to a normally lacking in flash Sun sign placement. His Sun is in harmonious aspect to his Moon in Capricorn and a powerfully placed Pluto in tension aspect to that moon. His Sun is in harmonious connection to the planet of humanitarian ideals, Uranus in Taurus, so he really does have an interest in helping people in constructive ways. His Mercury, the planet of communication is in the diplomatic sign of Libra, smoothing the way to cooperative efforts. What trips him up is his Mars in Leo in tension aspect to his Uranus, a placement that can at times make his actions look like self serving grandstanding. His Moon in the emotionally distant Capricorn. If we have a sense that we don’t know the real John McCain, we don’t. Moon in Capricorn people have a real talent in concealing their true feelings. But he does have five of the eighteen most frequent natal astrological configurations shared by United States presidents, the same number as his year 2000 political rival for the presidency.
At the time of Republican National Convention the Sun is coupled with Saturn and sits on top of McCain’s Sun, shining the light on his achievements and his standing in the party. Saturn often denotes restrictions, but in this case it is a sign that the mantle of responsibility is laid on McCain’s shoulders. Transiting Pluto is coming to rest on his South Node of the Moon, showing that the power brokers are going to go with who they believe are going to be a “sure win” in the upcoming election. McCain is not just the presumptive front runner, he is, most likely, the Republican candidate for the office of President of the United States.
