Making the Astrology of Makemake
A newly discovered transplutonian body has just been officially named, but not without controversy, which may provide a clue to the essential nature of this plutoid.
The red-speckled bright object that hovers near Pluto was initially nicknamed Easterbunny because it was discovered shortly after Easter in 2005.
Galactic unrest erupted in the ranks of the International Astronomical Union over what the official name should be.
And after much debate, the name Makemake has been decided on as a tribute to the Polynesian god of fertility and creator of humanity.
As for its status, the newly-named planet which is coated in red methane is now officially a plutoid.
Makemake was discovered March 31, 2005 by M. E. Brown, C. A. Trujillo and D. L. Rabinowitz at Palomar. The discovery time, sadly is lacking in any posted information about the discovery, so I set the time for a minute after midnight and hopefully Professor Brown will answer my email about the discovery time.
Makemake has his Sun conjunct Mercury and Venus opposite Jupiter in Libra. This is suggestive of an individual who makes a stand against the social order. With Neptune in harmonious relationship to Jupiter and in friendly aspect (sextile) the stellium, this is for the good of the group and a high spiritual ideal. The moon in Sagittarius sitting along side Pluto is inconjunct Saturn, suggestive that such transformative work is not born easily for the initiator of these actions, the nor is the path clearly seen. It is like Joan of Arc, who follows her “voices” to lead the French army in victory over the militarily superior English forces. She was not sure where it would lead her, but her faith in the saints, God and her mission carried her and the French forces through difficult battles to ultimate victory.
Time will tell if Makemake will be such a transformative element in our charts. With the naming done our work as astrologers is just beginning.

Oh bad comments, forgot to fill something in and then I lost an entire essay! Briefly:
1) fertility, makemake neamed at same time as pregnant man gives birth and world’s oldest mother in the news.
2) All those aspects if found in natal chart are promising some serious health problems. Profligate lifestyle, selfishness (Aries stellium) and inability to moderate (Mo/Pl in Sag) with extreme mood swings the root. Su/Ve opp Jupiter is a real ‘eat too much fat then moan about how none of those diets ever work, oh how hard life is’ kind of aspect. Disharmony through excess, again a complete lack of self-discipline, and a lot of me, me, me impetus.
Seems perfect for our times. Another ‘reap what you sow’ type of thing?
