Mercury Retrograde Gave Me My Mojo Back

by Beth Turnage

May 31, 2008
Mercurypic“Don’t tell me Mercury is retrograde!” my husband who knows almost nothing about astrology says. What he does know it that supposedly bad things happen during the brief period when the planet closest to the Sun appears to be going backward in its path.

Astronomically, what is happening is that the Earth overtakes the speedmeister’s relative position to the Sun and gets ahead of it.

If you take Earth as a metaphor for humans and human activity, this is exactly what happens during this period. We get ahead of ourselves, not thinking through the consequences. This is why we shouldn’t buy anything of consequence, like a house or a car, take a new job, or sign any contracts. Later, when Mercury gets back to its rightful place the consequences come to light andwe want to take it all back.

There is one noted exception to this, of course. For those folks born with a retrograde Mercury, this is exactly the time when they should do any of these things. During the normal motion, Mercury Retrograde babies feel terribly out of phase with the world. They are. When the Rx period hits, suddenly they are jolted back into the flow and they feel connected with the Universe again.

All this has provided a clue as to what has happened to me. Ever since the two, count ‘em two, eclipses in February, I, with my Sun opposite Uranus, has been living in this Uranian haze. I’ve been given one electric shock after another: my husband involved in hit and run accident, suffering a minor brain injury and losing his job because of it, one son not doing at all well at school, another joining the Marines, (suddenly, of course). I’ve been wandering around like an electroshock therapy patient!

Uranus is known as the higher octave of Mercury, so perhaps, as an astrologer, I shouldn’t have been surprised that when the retrograde period started, suddenly the Uranian haze lifted. Its as if Mercury said to Uranus, “Get thee BACK, Satan!” I wrote a piece posted over at Seduction Central about bad boys and Uranus which drew the most responses I’ve ever had on a piece of writing. And finally, finally I dug down deep enough into that Aquarian brain of mine and pulled out the artwork and the design for my personal Wordpress blog to go with my astrology business. (Its only been an incomplete shell since sometime last year. Go visit if you like, though there’s not much content, yet.) So you can say what you want to about the Mercury retrograde period, but I breath of sigh of relief that it gave me my mojo back.

So tell me, what experiences have you had with Mercury in Retrograde?

  1. Jennifer Says:

Well, I have natal MR, so I’m hoping my going on vacation the second week of June (timing couldn’t be helped) won’t be a problem for me the way it is for everyone else. Then again, it’s not like I control the planes, so maybe not.

Watching others, my computer at work got buggered when they upgraded it (or more like, they took away things I used on it, ugh). And my mother got dumped and then four days later, he changed his mind! I guess an MR dumping doesn’t take…

  2. Beth Says:

    Jennifer,

You should have no problems with the Rx period yourself, though the computer thing is so typical!

As far your mom’s lovelife, yup, a Mercury Rx dumping usually brings them right back.
