Rachael Ray, What’s Under the Sunshine Smile?
October 11, 2007

Rachael Ray and her husband John M. Cusimano can’t seem to escape the rumors of impending divorce, despite public declarations that “they couldn’t be happier”.
“I knew [he] was the man to marry when I asked him what he would like for his birthday dinner, Rachael Ray writes in her cookbook Cooking ‘Round the Clock. “I offered up lobster, steak, fine foods of all nationalities, to which he replied: ‘Can I just have some of your carbonara?’ Whoa! I was right about him….
But was she? Rumors of an affair on his part have soured the public image of them as a happy couple.
What’s in the stars for the woman with the sunshine smile and her lawyer/musician husband?
Research has failed to yield a publicly stated birthday for Cusimano, so we are relying on the viewpoint of Rachael’s chart alone.
Let’s put it this way. She isn’t getting divorced any time soon. Rachael has six planets in the sign of Virgo. While ‘virgo’ literally means ‘virgin’, this sign relates to the sacred virgin that serves in the temple. It is a sign that reveres service and sacrifice to an ideal. The sacred virgin transmuted through the sacred marriage becomes Hera, the Greek Queen of the Gods, who Greek women revered as the Goddess of Marriage. Though Hera’s marriage was marked by Zeus’ frequent dalliances, Hera refused to let Zeus slide out of his duty to her as her husband. The state of marriage was held as an ideal state, though it was recognized that imperfect people yielded imperfect marriages. Marriage is a sacred ideal for Rachael. She’ll serve that ideal with self sacrifice no matter the challenges in front of her.
Rachel’s marriage is no doubt tested with challenges by the planet of change, Uranus, that is making a long slow transit by opposition to her stellium of Virgo planets. in her chart, her marriage to John is represented by the planet Saturn in Aries. Aries is impulsive and selfish, and when he does something that hurts her, its not because he does it on purpose. Rather, he hurts through a disregard of her feelings and her values. For an idealistic person like Rachel, this hurts more than any other kind of betrayal. Saturn indicates that he is both a burden and a lesson. What is the lesson? Rachel is learning that too much self sacrifice is not necessarily a good thing. But she has quite some time to learn that as it will take until February of 2011 for this cycle to come to completion. When transiting Uranus opposes natal Uranus, Rachael will be ready to realize the promise of true individuality and will be ready to cast off the cloak of self sacrifice.
The most amazing thing is that while most people would be brought low by such a heavy lesson, Rachael not only will come through it, she’ll come through it with more and exciting things to share with the rest of us. We’ve only seen, so far, just a small piece, of what Rachaei Ray can do.
