Red Carpet Walk: Astrological Fashion Hits and Misses

by Beth Turnage

February 25, 2008
Oscar_StatuetteEvery industry has a report card and for actors its the Academy Awards. But what’s important here, Best Actor, Best Actress? No! Forget about that little gold statuette. What we are interested in is what the stars walk up the red carpet! From fashion hits and fashion misses, we are never failed to be entertained by the clothing choices of the stars.

What we wear, the things that look good to us when we choose them is a function of our birth charts. Whatever is there, for good or ill, rules our decisions in how we present ourselves to the world. Let’s take a look at the star’s stars to see what guides their fashion sense.

Oscar__sAmyCotillardGolden Globe and now Oscar winning international film star Amy Cotillard, born September 30, 1975, has four planets, Sun, Moon, Mercury and Mars in the fashion conscious sign of Libra. These planets in harmonious aspect with the planet of glamour, Neptune in the quirky sign of Aquarius shows that she knows how to take a fashion risk. As one fashion pundit said:

I have a feeling that Marion Cotillard’s scaly dress is going to provoke a lot of mixed opinions. It was a creamy off-white number with hundreds of scallops and a fishtail -– the net effect, if you’ll forgive the pun, was of a mermaid going to a fashionable ball. Perhaps the gown was a little offbeat, but with her Gallic sang-froid, Cotillard carried it off, and at least the dress wasn’t boring.

OscarsTildaSwintonOn the other hand, Best Supporting Actress winner Tilda Swinton couldn’t have been more wrong with this dress that overwhelmed the actor’s stature and coloring. The lack of any meaningful hairdo, make-up or necklace, which this dress cried for, made the effect stark and cold. Furthermore, on someone with a more dramatic and filled out frame this dress would have been striking. On Tilda, is was just a strike.

Tilda, born November 5, 1960, has three planets in the sign of Scorpio, her Sun, Mars, and her planet of communications Mercury, giving her a natural penchant to wear black. On any other Scorpio, this color looks good. Unfortunately, on Tilda, whose Moon and her glamour planet Neptune are the sign of sign of the unpredictable, Aquarius, challenging her Sun, Mars, and Mercury combination, it just grates.

OscarsJessicaAlbaJessica Alba, born April 28, 1981, was one of the few actresses that picked a color different from the red, black and white predominant in this year’s red carpet walk. Jessica, about six months pregnant, choose this flowing purple gown with an interesting flowered bodice that moved elegantly when she walked.

Purple would at first glance seem on odd choice for Jessica, who has a collection of planets in beauty loving, yet earth centered Taurus. But she does have showy Leo on the ascendant, making a trine to the planet of glamour, Jupiter in the sign of Sagittarius. Jupiter is represented by the color of royalty, purple, and trine her royal ascendant, Leo, Jessica is announcing that she is Hollywood royalty.

OscarsMilleyCyrusThough Miley, born November 23, 1992, has an outgoing fire sign Sagittarius for a Sun sign, she has her Moon, Pluto, and Mercury in Scorpio. This combination is trine her planet of action Mars and in easy aspect to her planet of glamour, Neptune. Miley may act like an outgoing Sag, but inside she is a brooding Scorpio. Here she reveals that side in this red dress, one of Scorpio’s favorite colors. The restraint in the design is due to her Neptune in Capricorn. Capricorn is a subdued sign, so whatever Miley goes for in fashion tends to be understated. The clothes in her television show have more flash, but she probably doesn’t choose those herself. Nontheless, the teen superstar is gorgeous, no matter what she wears.
