Superbowl Sunday: Who is Likely to Win?

Nothing galvanizes the focus of the American male than that one special Sunday of the year: Superbowl Sunday. You see the glint in his eye and you just see dreams of gridiron gallantry running through his brain. It is a defacto national holiday, the one day of the year when men can hoot, holler, drink beer and have the women serve them treats in front of the television, without fear of censure.

There is another thing American men are wont to do, though furtively, and away from the watchful eyes of the womenfolk. Bet. Yep, there is nothing that seals the Superbowl deal like hard earned cash laid down on the team of choice. Football pools, side bets with coworkers, calls to the bookie, all heighten the stakes at hand.

And what football aficionado wouldn’t want a heads up on this Sunday’s potential winner? This astrologer in the spirit of the Superbowl and armchair warriors everywhere takes a look at the prospects of each team for victory.

The Favorite: The New England Patriots

As a birthday we have the date the franchise was awarded to Billy Sullivan, November 16, 1959. The spirit of this team is characterized by its Sun in Scorpio sitting along side the Mars at the same time. It likes to dominate and to control by aggressive action. Its Moon in Gemini, opposite Mercury in Sagittarius sitting with Jupiter in challenge aspect to Natal Pluto in a configuration called a T-Square. It is a team that likes to move fast with big plays. This is a team that feels fated to win since the planet of work and responsibility, Saturn and the planet of big dreams, Neptune connects energetically to the moon in a configuration called a yod. The yod is called “The Finger of God”. This particular year, the Pats have felt especially empowered as the nuclear fueled planet of domination, Pluto, is sits on top of the Patriot’s Saturn, setting off the power of the yod earning them the distinction of being only the second team ever to garner a undefeated regular season.

The Opponent: The Giants

”Big Blue” is the only one of five teams that joined the NFL in 1925 that still exists. They played their first game in New Britain, CT against the All New Britain football team on October 4, 1925, used here as the “birthday” of the Giants. Their Sun, Mercury and Mars sits tightly packed together, making a challenge aspect to Jupiter and Pluto, a T-square involving Pluto, just like the Patriot’s. Interestingly, the Giants also have a yod in their chart as well, involving the Sun, Mercury, Mars stellium with Saturn and the Moon. With their Moon is the sign of the bull, Taurus, they feel most secure in slug fest game scenarios, where they win by sheer patience and persistence, wearing out their opponents. With quirky Uranus in harmonious aspect to their Venus, occasionally, they come up with plays that no one sees coming, that are sometimes brilliant, sometimes missteps. By transit, Pluto, the Moon, Jupiter and Venus make a challenge aspect to the Sun, Mercury and Mars stellium, setting off the energy of the T-Square, lending them underdog status.

The Debate:

The Patriots, as the odds on favorite are giving a 12 point spread to the Giants. But is this the Patriots year to win yet another Superbowl? The Giants won their division, true, but as one armchair pundit remarked, did it by other teams losing before they did. But the Giant’s quarterback Eli Manning has something to prove to his brother Peyton Manning, quarterback of the Indianapolis Colts, last year’s Superbowl winner. Will this be the impetus to propel the Giants to an upset win?

The Prediction:

The Patriot’s fast and hard hitting game may find a brick wall in Giant’s slow and steady style this Sunday. A group of planets by transit (as they are in the sky) are making hard aspects to the Patriot’s sun, but an easy aspect to the Giant’s Sun, Mercury and Mars combination. Pluto, the Moon, Jupiter and Venus are sitting on the Giant’s Jupiter. Transiting Jupiter coming back to its natal placement, the Jupiter Return, is like the sun shining on you all the time. Not only will the point spread be closer than previously predicted, it looks like this is the Giants lucky year.
