Terror walked through the door at Northern Illinois University sending another shock wave through our already stressed American nation. The news reports are filled with recitations of the actions of a lone gun man letting loose a rain of fire on a class filled with unsuspecting students, without apparent rhyme, reason or motive.

Northern Illinois University was said to have an extremely rapid response to the crisis, supposedly as a response the Virginia Tech shootings ten months earlier. But Northern Illinois seems to be unusually sensitive to violence and threats of violence, having put into place this Workplace Violence Prevention Policy at the university a full ten days before the Virginia Tech tragedy. What does astrology tell us about this about this University and the tragedy there?

The University opened its doors on its Dekalb campus on September 12, 1899 as a teacher’s college named Northern Illinois State Normal School.

On this date, Pluto, the planet of transformation was in tension aspect to Saturn, the planet of work, responsibility and lessons, and the Moon, representing the home, both in the sign of higher learning, Sagittarius. The Sun, Venus and Mercury were in the sign of the school teacher, Virgo, making challenge aspects to Pluto and the Saturn/Moon combination. This configuration is called a T-Square which through challenges and difficulties forces an awareness of the need to form relationships with others. Pluto opposite the moon marks an an entity as being especially aware and/or venerable to threats and attempts of violence. It is a hypersensitivity towards a need for security in the face of forces beyond the individual’s control.

On the day of the attack, Mars, the planet of violence, by its position in the sky was in tension aspect to the University’s moon. Both of these points were in challenge as to the planet of the unexpected, transiting Uranus. The trigger was the transiting Moon in Gemini which was exactly in opposition to the University’s progressed Moon in Gemini.

With Mars in the sky sitting on the the University’s planet of deception and illusion, it is unlikely we will ever have an accurate picture of the shooter’s motive. With the sign of Gemini so prominent in the actions of this one day, it is likely that the investigation will uncover a co-conspirator to this sad and senseless crime.
