The Astrology of Celebrity: Beyonce’s Alter-Ego

Beyoncé’s new double album, ‘I Am … Sasha Fierce,’ is the work of two artists. On one side, the refined megastar we all know simply as Beyoncé. On the other, a brash, sexy newcomer named, you guessed it, Sasha Fierce. Surprise — they’re the same person! As Beyoncé puts it, “Sasha Fierce is the fun, more sensual, more aggressive, more outspoken, more glamorous side that comes out … when I’m on the stage.”

Born September 4, 1981, Beyonce Giselle Knowles has her sun in Virgo and Moon in Scorpio. Because we lack a birth time, we do not know which house these planets fall in her chart. However, both Virgo and Scorpio are known as “quiet” signs. The natural tendency of the individual is to be reflective rather than outgoing.

Balancing this energy is many planets is the sociable sign of Libra, Mercury, Saturn, Jupiter, Venus and Pluto, which drives Beyonce to be “”out there” forming connections with others. These planets are in the harmonious energetic connection called a trine to her planet of action, Mars in the leadership sign of Leo.

But somber Saturn and Pluto, keeps a lid on social Libran activity. She is very careful that she does not do or say the “wrong thing.”

Most likely she views her relationship with her fans as a form of social communication, a way to network with the larger community. Her Sun in the work and service sign of Virgo urges her to be of service to the community. Eventually, as she matures and secures her financial future, she will devote more of her time and resources to charitable causes. So in a real sense, her current celebrity and career is a means to an end.

But as you can imagine, all this drive towards work and service, and developing her career as a means towards furthering this goal, displays a soul that is perhaps too serious, too focused on a goal. No wonder she feels the need to escape into a new social persona, Sasha Fierce, “the fun, more sensual, more aggressive, more outspoken, more glamorous side.”

In the astrological technique known as progressions, the positions of the planets in the natal chart are moved along, progressed, to new positions in the natal chart. There are many types of progressions, but the technique used most often is called Secondary Progressions. In the Secondary Progression technique, one year equals a day in the position of the planets from the day of your birth. This technique is said to show the development of the individual as you grow and mature.

When Beyonce’s Sun progressed into the fun and glamorous zodiac sign of Libra, sitting on her natal Saturn, it is as through a light switch was thrown on in the more somber sides of Beyonce’s soul. For the present, she feels like the light is shining in on her and she is free to express inner Libra.
