The Astrology of Menopause

Here is a wonderful article on the astrology of menopause that I want to share with those of us that are experiencing this phase in our lives.

The Astrology of Menopause

What is your menopause experience? Has it been difficult or fairly easy? Having answered that question, why don’t you send along your birth date, time and place as part of an informal study on the subject?

Elizabeth Spring talks about perimenopause and menopause as being part of the series of mid-life transits starting with the Uranian opposition at 42 culminating in the Chiron return at age 51 and completing itself at the second Saturn return at age 59.

In my family’s experience, one family member has had a fairly difficult time with menopause, while I seem to have relatively few side affects (and yes, my doctor has confirmed I am in menopause.) Why? Same genetics, same environment growing up, vastly different experience. Off the bat, transiting Uranus in her chart is inconjunct her natal Uranus, which forms serious squares to her Moon/Neptune combination. In mine, transiting Neptune is has moved off my Sun/Uranus opposition; transiting Uranus is harassing my moon. Aside from the square to my natal Saturn, no difficult aspects here (just the prospect of moving to another location!)

We haven’t talked much about Chiron here at Astrology Explored, (which I will rectify soon) but Chiron has become more important in astrological circles as we come to understand it meaning in the chart.
Chiron is a planet whose mythology revolves around service to others while bearing the pain of physical existence. The Chiron return is especially significant for women since so much of our wisdom comes the physical process of childbearing. The completion of that cycle marks our growth as women and individuals. Freed of the responsibility of bearing and raising the next generation, we are now at liberty to explore ourselves as individuals.

Share your experience and lets see if we can come up with some predictors of the menopause experience!

I may be too wonky to chart since I had chemo induced menopause for about 7 mos. 2 years ago! But I am 9/24/64. I had some hyperdysplasia (thickening) of the uterus that showed up in a scan but that is a side effect of the steroids I was on during treatment! During treatment when I had terrible night sweats and hot flashes, I took stinging nettle capsules and those nights I didn’t wake sweating. (Peri)Menopause is giving me big balls and a big mouth! LOL! I love it! I am so fascinated by the topics you cover astrologically! Thanks so much for all the great work! I believe there are 4 stages to a woman’s cycle-maiden, mama, matriarch, crone. I look forward to reading again!
