The Plutonian Relationship
August 25, 2007

Excuse me, why are you here? Oh, you want to know about your one true love? Really, just one? Oh, I see, you feel like you’ve found your soulmate, that this relationship is so intense, it can’t be anything else? Tell me, you wonder then why you aren’t married, why the relationship isn’t moving forward? Yes? Here sit, down. Why did I turn down the lights? So we can see the computer screen better, (though it is really because I don’t want to see you cry after I tell you what I have to tell you).
The relationship you are in is ruled by Pluto. Do you kinow the story of the marriage of the God of the Underworld? He took his bride by force, dragged her down into Hades and refused to let her go. However, it happens, she, Persephone, was the daughter of the earth goddess Demeter, who punished the Gods for allowing the marriage. She refused to let anything grow, and the humans starved. They railed against their gods, and reviled them. Zeus was forced to consider Demeter’s plea and said that Persephone could return if she did not eat anything of from the Underworld. However, Persephone , though she protested through a starvataion fast, weakened when Hades pleaded with her to taste of the pomegranate fruit, and she ate three seeds. That was enough and Zeus had a real problem on his hands. On one hand there was the earth mother, who caused his followers to hate him and the all the gods and on the other, his powerful brother, who threatened to refuse to take the dead if Perspephone was taken from him. Zeus proposed that Persephone would live half the year with her mother and half the year with her husband. And Persephone, she was given no choice at all, except to follow the dictates of other gods and her mother.
You have no choice but to be in this relationship. You’ve never felt so passionately about anything before. This is Pluto, which plumbs your depths and stirs the darkness inside you. You know at some level that this relationship is no good for you. Maybe he is married, or unavailable in some other way, he hurts you– verbally or even physically. As fascinated as you are by this person, you are terrified of losing yourself. You should be. Pluto slams you into a situation, and just as you accept it, starts dissolving it and you as the rain washes away a piece of candy made of sugar.
So you see, this relationship isn’t about “happily ever after. Its about tranforming the aspect of yourself that Pluto hits. In many people, the other person’s Pluto is opposite your moon. Here is your core identity, what you’ve brought back from other lifetimes, your security needs, your emotion foundations. Guess what? You need to transform this. To what? To what is essentially left over after everything is done. For others, it is Venus making a connection to each other’s Pluto, which talks about your value systems,. Or it can be his Pluto is in your seventh house, or the other way around. Here the relationship is about how you form partnerships and the way you navigate them.
In the end you will realize you deserve something more than the crumbs this person gives you. You will realize that emotional intensity is not the same as love. I know there is nothing more than you desire than this relationship. That’s the point, isn’t it? Transforming what it is that you desire, for your own good.
