Well, Is It The Moon? Look Who I Annoyed This Time

by

September 17, 2008

Doing what I usually do, I posted a piece on the death of David Foster Wallace. Well, apparently some things are just too sacred and writing on the death of a beloved literally figure was just too much for some people.

On Skepchick my post recieved a mild lampooning, but at the Friendly Athethist I was given what for in the piece, “Please Don’t Let People Do This Me When I Die.” (Hemnant, don’t think you have to worry. Astrologers generally only write about famous people.)

To be fair, there are astrologers who believe that we shouldn’t delve too deeply even into public figures psyches. And there are some astrologers who have been subject to some backlash for doing so. But being an Aquarian, I’ve got to be me.

For the my colleagues who understand and for the skeptics who don’t the piece was up for one whole day before the hits to my site and the less than complimentary comments started. This is as the Moon swung into the zodiac sign of energetic Aries opposite our transiting friends Mercury, Venus and Mars in Libra. I expect this to continue as the Moon swings over my Mars at 3 degrees Taurus and for at least 10 degrees after, where the Moon will square my Aquarian Sun. Unfortunately I am going to miss all the drama as I will be on the road shortly to South Carolina to witness my middle son’s graduation from Marine boot camp.

For those that are interested here are some posts that explain why I think astrology will eventually be proved scientifically:

Calling Astrology a Pseudo Science

My readers don’t have to worry as I banked the posts for the next few days to the future, so Astrology Explored will continue on auto pilot. For the skeptics, no I am not avoiding you. I am otherwise occupied. But to paraphrase Douglas Adams, “So long and thanks for all the hits.”

Enjoy the graduation! You must be so proud.
Sorry your getting a lashing from people.

Well, I have to say, I was shocked at your initial post and did feel it was out of line, bordering on slander. Anything may be a possibility, but suggesting something so humiliating about the deceased crossed a line. I don’t think you should be surprised by earning reaction, as it was a sensational thing to throw out there, even as a possibility. I think you crossed an ethical line, though of course, it’s your blog and you are free to do so.

  3. Freelance Guru Says:

You know it would be very easy for you to silence the athiests and Skeptics. In fact I can think of 2 ways for you to do it right now.

    1) Successfully predict something.
If you can show that astrology actually can tell the future with a better than chance outcome than not only will the skeptics stop criticizing you but the entire scientific movement will be desperate to know how you do it.

    2) Do an accurate personality profile
Come to my site and click on ask a question, allowing me to get you’re e-mail address privatly, and I will e-mail you my time, date and place of birth. Then you can construct a personality profile for me which I can open to honest review of those people who know me. If there are more hits than misses than possible by chance then people will have to agree this deserves a closer look.

It’s clear that you believe astrology is getting a bad rap from these people, and also clear that you strongly believe in it.
It would by very easy to help prove that to the doubters.

I look forward to hearing from you.
