What to Look for in an Astrology Reading

For those of you that hesitate from seeking out your local astrologer, here are a few things to look for in an astrology reading. Perhaps this will put your mind at ease.

In addition, here are some other suggestions. First, tell the astrologer what you are looking for. If you want a reading for a relationship, don’t throw out to the astrologer that you just want to hear about what she or he sees in the coming months, hoping they’ll figure out what it is you are looking for. Though it is natural for people to seek verification of an astrologer’s skill, please remember that most astrologers are not psychic.

It is OK to ask what training and experience the astrologer has. Certification through the NCGR or the American Federation of Astrologers is good but not absolutely necessary. Though the trend today is for astrologers to seek some sort of certification, not all practicing astrologers have a document on their walls. Astrologers tend to hit their stride in their mid-forties, after the conclusion of the midlife transits, and for those of us in that category, certification programs weren’t as widely available when we were first studying as they are today.

Ask what to expect in a reading. A good astrologer will let you know. In my practice, for a general reading, we’ll go over the general personality of the individual, strengths as well as weaknesses and life issues, with suggestions on how to handle current conditions. If you are not comfortable with the proposed content, feel free not to book the appointment. A professional will understand when the energies don’t click.

Though most clients don’t have this problem it is totally OK to ask what the fees are upfront. Though some readings seem pricey, an astrologer is covering all the time, including prep work in the fees, not just the face time with the client.

And relax! A good astrology reading isn’t going to filled with predictions of doom and gloom and should help you get a glimpse of the times ahead. You wouldn’t go on a journey without looking at a map would you? Then why should the journey of your life be any different?
