Will Smith seems set on heading towards another blockbuster hit with his new movie I Am Legend so naturally many people are taking another look at the popular rapper/actor.

An internet search easily reveals his birthdate, September 25, 1968, but not his birth time, leaving us in doubt of his ascendant, a key piece of an individual’s astrological make-up. The ascendant is the face we present to the world, the way we interact socially and the first impression people have of us.

Astrologers have tools to parse out elusive information. The technique used is called “rectification”. Using clues from physical appearance to events in a client’s life, an astrologer can nail down a possible birth time. Rectification is a complex technique, starting with an analysis of body features to narrow down the list of possible ascendants. On Will’s birthdate, the range of ascendants start with Cancer and works it way back to the early degrees of Taurus.

Let’s consider the first four possible ascendants, Cancer, Leo, Virgo and Libra. In the chart below the approximate times for the sign on the ascendant is listed with each sign for Will Smith’s birthdate. And just for a comparison, below is a computer generated face representing an average male face.
Compared to the average face, Will’s face is long, the forehead is high, the eyes are small, the lips are rounded and the brows lower set in the face. Though he doesn’t appear to have dimples, this profile fits more closely than the other possible ascendants.

Will Smith’s personality seems to fit the Libra ascendant, though, of course he has a strong Libra influence in his chart through his Sun, Mercury and Venus. Libra is called the “relationship sign”, with a strong drive to have a partner in his life. Will himself tells the story of what drove him to show business:

. . . it all goes back to when he was 16. Smith says that it was his cheating first girlfriend motivated him to become a movie star.

“I was so devastated that she cheated on me and I remember making a decision that she cheated on me ‘cause I wasn’t good enough right? And I remember laying in my mother’s bed crying and making a decision that if I was the best at everything, that my woman could never cheat on me,� he said.

Analyzing facial features is just a first step in the rectification process, but we can mark down “Libra” as a possible ascendant. What do you think?
