Zodiac Analysis: The “Wright” Stuff Examined
May 1, 2008

While Barack Obama has spent considerable time positioning himself as the candidate that bridges differences and brings together diverse segments of the Democratic party, his association with the controversial Reverend Wright has tainted this image. After twenty years being a member of the Wright’s congregation and having said publicly that Wright was “like a family member”, he now says that “The person I saw yesterday [during Wright's recent public appearances] was not the person that I met 20 years ago.”
Wright counters with “If Senator Obama did not say what he said, he would never get elected”, adding more fuel to the fire by insinuating that Obama’s denouncements are politically motivated. He made the rounds of various talk shows, stating that his remarks were misunderstood and taken out of context. That was before he went before the National Press Club and blamed the government in creating HIV as a biological weapon to destroy people of color.
Yet beyond the war of words between a presidential candidate and the man who ministered to his spiritual needs for two decades is the simmering issue of race relations. It is a powder keg issue, especially since one of issues is the root cause of racism.
Wright, in a much publicized YouTube clip says unequivocally that:
People have to put up with who cares what a poor black man has to face every day in a country controlled by rich white people
laying squarely on the white segment of the human race the plight of people of color, despite a PEW poll that reports that a majority of black people say that regardless of the race of an individual, a black person can make it in America.
What does astrology have to say about Reverend Wright and why he views the world as he does?
Wright was born of a middle class black family, his father a minister and his mother a school teacher. He grew up in the racially mixed section known as Germantown in Philadelphia, PA. He had no trouble obtaining an education, though he did break it up to serve in Marines. He earned his masters in theology in 1969 and 1990 he earned a Doctor of Ministry degree from the United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio, where he studied under Samuel DeWitt Proctor, a mentor to Martin Luther King . In 1972 he become pastor of the then 87 member Trinity Church of Christ. Building on a theology that was “unashamedly black and unapologetically Christian” he built the membership to exceed six thousand members. Not suffering from the effects of poverty himself, why does Wright have an outlook that portrays blacks as victims of society?
One Vedic astrologer has rectified Wright’s unknown birth time to 9:30 AM. This fixes his ascendant at Scorpio and his mid heaven in Leo. While this is speculative, this fits a minister with a fiery and dramatic style of public speaking. His Sun is in the perfectionist sign of Virgo, sitting along with the planet of mysticism, Neptune, adding a spiritual bent to a pragmatic sign. This combination is in easy energetic connection with the planet of individuality, Uranus, making it natural for Wright to see the world in ways that conflicts with consensus viewpoints. His moon is in the justice loving sign of Libra, sits along side the planet of communication, Mercury. He has a strong emotional need to balance the scales of social justice. With the Moon and Venus in tension aspect to his Mars in the aggressive sign of Aries, he does so in a combative fashion. Stirring it up, going over the top, pitting one side against the other is his way of highlighting inequities in American life. Since there are no inconjuncts in his chart, he is fully aware of what he is doing, he is fully aware of the effect of the words he speaks. In fact, a challenge aspect from the planet of values to his predominantly placed Pluto at the top of his chart suggests he does so because he strongly desires personal power. Just as he demonstrated in his remarks about his presidential parishioner, he doesn’t care of effects of his tactics on others as long as he achieves his desired results.
Mars in the heavens, by transit, now and at the time of his Press Club remarks, is in challenge aspect to his Mercury/Moon/Mars combination. Mars in challenge aspect here spotlights the weaknesses of this potent combination, revealing its flaws rather than its strengths. Indeed, in promoting his personal agenda at this time, Reverend Wright not only damaged his credibility, but that of a man he purported to support.
